15.02.2024 – Trial access to e-books on the De Gruyter platform
Until April 30, 2024, trial access to e-books on the de Gruyter platform is available for the entire UK. These are multidisciplinary books in different languages. Visit the e-resources portal to access.
05.02.2024 – New Memorial Plaque in the Study Room at Celetná 13
The memorial plaque, which we unveiled to the academic community on January 24, 2024, is the work of sculptor Radek Mužík. It commemorates the activities of Assoc. Prof. Anna Grmelová (1947-2012) and Assoc. Prof. Josef Grmela (1942-2020), who significantly contributed to the development of the Department of English Language and Literature during the post-November period. Assoc. Prof. Anna Grmelová, who led the department from 1993 to 2009, among other achievements, initiated the establishment of a specialized study room for English language and literature in 1995. 12.01.2024 – Operation of libraries at the Faculty of Arts
In connection with the recent tragic events at the Faculty of Arts, there have been several changes in the operation of libraries and library services. All libraries in the main building will remain closed until at least the end of January 2024. Books and notebooks can be returned at the CU FA Library at Celetná 20 with extended opening hours. In the Library of the Institute of Latin and Greek Studies of the Faculty of Arts a temporary reading room for interlibrary loan services has been operating since 8 January.
All loans have an extended deadline until 1 March 2024. However, this does not apply to those that were due to be returned before December 21, 2023. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the CU FA Library by e-mail knihovna@ff.cuni.cz. More information can be found here.
07.12.2023 – Short-term closure of the study room in Celetná 13
On Monday, December 11, 2023, the recording of the podcast Podtrženo will take place in the study room. The study room will be closed from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
16.10.2023 – Closure of the reference desk due to the strike
Due to the strike, the reference desk will be closed on October 17, 2023 from 2 to 3 p.m. Study rooms will remain open. You can find more information about the strike here: Universities at the crossroads: red light for Czech universities!
20.09.2023 – News in the study room in Celetná
We have newly equipped the study room in Celetná with a self-service device. Thanks to it, you can borrow and return books independently. Simply place your student card or employee card to the reader and put the books in the designated place.
29.06.2023 – Library opening hours in summer
The Library in M. Rettigové 4 will be open on July 3rd, 4th and 10th 2023, and every Tuesday in August. You can use the study room and the lending service from 9 am to 3 pm. The study room in Celetná 13 is closed for the whole of July and August. Books can be picked up in the smart lockers outside the study room by appointment. For returns, use the bibliobox in M. Rettigová 4 next to the reception desk or the Bibliobox in Celetná 13 in front of the library entrance. If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them by e-mail: knihovna@pedf.cuni.cz.
24.05.2023 – Press conference in the study room
On Thursday, May 25, there will be a press conference in the Study Room. The Study Room will be closed from 8am to 12pm. We invite you to the Study Room in Celetna 13, which is open from 9 am to 6 pm.

16.03.2023 – Discussion with translator Jana Zoubková in Celetná 13
On Monday, 20 March 2023 at 10 a.m. we invite you to a discussion with translator Jana Zoubková in the study room of Celetná 13. The discussion will take place as part of the national event Meet Your Translator. Organized by the Library of the Faculty of Education CU, the Department of German Studies and the Translators' Association.
02.03.2023 – All March we forgive late fees for returned books
As part of March – Readers' Month, we are announcing a reading amnesty. Users who return books borrowed from the Faculty of Education Library (including the study room in Celetna) during March 2023 will not be charged for the late fees attached to them. Books can be returned in the lending room or to biblioboxes. The bibliobox for returning books can be found in M. Rettigové next to the reception desk, the bibliobox in Celetná 13 is outside the entrance to our attic study room.
22.02.2023 – Night with Andersen will take place in our library again this year
The Night with Andersen 2023 will occur in our library on 31 March 2023. The children and grandchildren of the faculty staff are welcome. Recommended age of children: 6-12 years. 15.11.2022 – Web of Science - seminar
We invite you to the seminar Supporting researchers throughout the research cycle and news not only in Web of Science. The seminar will take place on 22 November 2022 at 10 a.m. at the Faculty of Education of Charles University in room R118. You will learn how to effectively map the scientific literature, how to create your own library, how to cite while writing, how to format citations to the correct style and how to choose the most appropriate journal to submit your article. 10.11.2022 – Restrictions on the operation of the study room in M. Rettigové 4
The study room in M. Rettigové will be closed on Thursday, November 10, 2022, from 2 to 3 p.m. due to the filming of a documentary for Czech Television. From 3 p.m. you can use the study room in full again. We apologize for any complications.
24.10.2022 – We moved the sheet music collection to Celetná 13
Our sheet music collection consists of almost 8000 copies. You can now borrow them in the study room in Celetná 13, where we moved the collection during the summer. We look forward to your visit!

You can find us in the Lending Library at M. Rettigové 4 every working day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the Study Room in the same building from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m from Monday to Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays. After the summer break, we are also opening the Study Room at Celetná 13: we look forward to seeing you every Monday from 1 to 6 p.m., from Tuesday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We wish you a successful winter semester!

Our Library Window is open again. You can order books via the catalog and wait for an e-mail that books are ready for You to pick up. We can lend books using Smart Lockers on request. Electronic Resources are available 24 hours a day. To return books, use the bibliobox next to the gatehouse. You can also send them by mail. You can pay any late fees by bank transfer. 04.01.2021 – PHOTO EXHIBITION: Martina Růžičková: Details of Nature
Martina Růžičková is a former employee of our library, an enthusiastic amateur photographer. Last December, you could see an exhibition of her photographs Winter – color and black and white – in our Small Gallery by the Studyroom. The current exhibition presents her other favorite theme – plants and insects.
13.10.2020 – Library Closed
Our library had to be closed due to preventive measures following the restrictions given by the Government of the Czech Republic until further notice. We will extend all loans so that there are no new late payments. All e-resources are available 24 hours a day. Books can be returned in the Bibliobox next to the reception desk. You can also mail them back to us. You can pay any late fees by bank transfer.

How to order books:
Open CU Central Catalogue. Search the book and make a request for the book situated in FEdu Magdalény Rettigové or FEdu Celetná.
Always return books to the library you borrowed them from. In Magdalény Rettigové, you can return the books in the Bibliobox which is situated next to the reception desk.
21.05.2020 – Exhibition: Czech monuments from the 19th century
Visit an exhibition in the Small Gallery next to the study room. You will see engraving of Czech monuments from the 19th century and you can also win prices if you participate in our competition.
08.05.2020 – Book loans
The loaning desk in the building in M. Rettigové street is open from Monday to Friday 9.OO-15.00.
Language Study Room Celetná is open every Wednesday from 9.00-14.30.
Books have to be ordered in advance via the CU Central Catalogue. When you find a book in the catalogue, make sure it is located in FEdu M. Rettigové or FEdu Celetná. To make the request, choose the option Request on the left side of the web page. The value in the Due date column has to be On shelf. When the reservation is ready, we will send you a confirmation e-mail with further instructions.
Books borrowed in the M. D. Rettigové building can be returned only in the Bibliobox next to the reception desk.

According to the quickly changing nature of the situation, the dean´s college on March 10, 2020 decided: The PedF UK building will be accessible only to teachers and staff with their Staff Card. Students are not allowed in the building. All loans will be prolonged as necessary. There is no need to return them in the original date. Media database Anopress contains full texts of peridodicals, radio programmes and TV programmes from 1996 until today. It is now accessible from anywhere for students and employees of Faculty of Education for free!

Andrea Kalinová captured on her photos Arctic Circle Trail or 240 kilometers of Greenland wilderness. Come and enjoy the Nordic vibe in the Small Gallery next to the study room. The exhibition will last until the end of the February.
17.01.2020 – New Language Study Room
We are going to open a new Language Study Room in the Faculty building in Celetná street. The opening will take place on 17th January 2020. Study room provides reference literature, exercise books, monographies and specialised databases for English, German and Russian language and literature Studies. More information can be found here.
17.12.2019 – Limitation of Study room services
On Tuesday, December 17, a Christmas meeting of faculty staff will take place in the Study room. The Study room will be closed from 2pm to 5pm. We are sorry for complications. You can then visit the reading room at regular times until Thursday December 19.
09.12.2019 – New Library and Circulation Rules of CU
Dear library user, we would like to inform you that the new Library and Circulation Rules of CU become effective on the 1st of December 2019 (for further information, please visit https://cuni.cz/UK-10054.html). New rules are bringing innovation to library services. From the 1st of December 2019, you won’t need a separate registration to each CU library, only one registration for the use of CU libraries will be sufficient. Your current registration will remain valid and will also be extended to every CU library. We believe that this arrangement will facilitate access to literature and special collections of CU libraries.

21.08.2019 – A small change in the library services between 3rd and 6th September
Because of a reconstruction of our Loan desk room between 3rd and 6th September 2019, we are ready to lend you books in the Study room during this time. It´s a little bit challenge for us, but we look forward to seeing you, and to newcomers in particular! We have automatically extended all borrowed books, that should be returned at September 3th, 2019. A new due date for these books is September 9th, 2019. Please feel free to use our big red box (Bibliobox) next to the main entrance in the building, if you only want to return books and you don´t need anything else in the library.

Good News! Our Study Room was officially opened after a long reconstruction. It contains not only books, magazines and a quit place for study, but also computers with access to electronic journals, a printer or a scanner. Smaller team Study Room is available as well. We look forward for your visit!

From Monday 4th to Thursday 7th February, the library will be closed due to the moving of the circulation desk.
