15.02.2024 – Trial access to e-books on the De Gruyter platform

Until April 30, 2024, trial access to e-books on the de Gruyter platform is available for the entire UK. These are multidisciplinary books in different languages. Visit the e-resources portal to access.


Memorial Plaque

05.02.2024 – New Memorial Plaque in the Study Room at Celetná 13

The memorial plaque, which we unveiled to the academic community on January 24, 2024, is the work of sculptor Radek Mužík. It commemorates the activities of Assoc. Prof. Anna Grmelová (1947-2012) and Assoc. Prof. Josef Grmela (1942-2020), who significantly contributed to the development of the Department of English Language and Literature during the post-November period. Assoc. Prof. Anna Grmelová, who led the department from 1993 to 2009, among other achievements, initiated the establishment of a specialized study room for English language and literature in 1995. 12.01.2024 – Operation of libraries at the Faculty of Arts

In connection with the recent tragic events at the Faculty of Arts, there have been several changes in the operation of libraries and library services. All libraries in the main building will remain closed until at least the end of January 2024. Books and notebooks can be returned at the CU FA Library at Celetná 20 with extended opening hours. In the Library of the Institute of Latin and Greek Studies of the Faculty of Arts a temporary reading room for interlibrary loan services has been operating since 8 January.

All loans have an extended deadline until 1 March 2024. However, this does not apply to those that were due to be returned before December 21, 2023. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the CU FA Library by e-mail knihovna@ff.cuni.cz. More information can be found here.

On Monday, December 11, 2023, the recording of the podcast Podtrženo will take place in the study room. The study room will be closed from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.

We have newly equipped the study room in Celetná with a self-service device. Thanks to it, you can borrow and return books independently. Simply place your student card or employee card to the reader and put the books in the designated place.

29.06.2023 – Library opening hours in summer

The Library in M. Rettigové 4 will be open on July 3rd, 4th and 10th 2023, and every Tuesday in August. You can use the study room and the lending service from 9 am to 3 pm. The study room in Celetná 13 is closed for the whole of July and August. Books can be picked up in the smart lockers outside the study room by appointment. For returns, use the bibliobox in M. Rettigová 4 next to the reception desk or the Bibliobox in Celetná 13 in front of the library entrance. If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them by e-mail: knihovna@pedf.cuni.cz.

02.03.2023 – All March we forgive late fees for returned books

As part of March – Readers' Month, we are announcing a reading amnesty. Users who return books borrowed from the Faculty of Education Library (including the study room in Celetna) during March 2023 will not be charged for the late fees attached to them. Books can be returned in the lending room or to biblioboxes. The bibliobox for returning books can be found in M. Rettigové next to the reception desk, the bibliobox in Celetná 13 is outside the entrance to our attic study room.

Our library had to be closed due to preventive measures following the restrictions given by the Government of the Czech Republic until further notice. How to order books:

Open CU Central Catalogue. Search the book and make a request for the book situated in FEdu Magdalény Rettigové or FEdu Celetná.

Always return books to the library you borrowed them from. In Magdalény Rettigové, you can return the books in the Bibliobox which is situated next to the reception desk.

The loaning desk in the building in M. Rettigové street is open from Monday to Friday 9.OO-15.00.

Language Study Room Celetná is open every Wednesday from 9.00-14.30.

Books have to be ordered in advance via the CU Central Catalogue. When you find a book in the catalogue, make sure it is located in FEdu M. Rettigové or FEdu Celetná. To make the request, choose the option Request on the left side of the web page. The value in the Due date column has to be On shelf. When the reservation is ready, we will send you a confirmation e-mail with further instructions.

Books borrowed in the M. D. Rettigové building can be returned only in the Bibliobox next to the reception desk.

09.12.2019 – New Library and Circulation Rules of CU

Dear library user, we would like to inform you that the new Library and Circulation Rules of CU become effective on the 1st of December 2019 (for further information, please visit https://cuni.cz/UK-10054.html). New rules are bringing innovation to library services. From the 1st of December 2019, you won’t need a separate registration to each CU library, only one registration for the use of CU libraries will be sufficient. Your current registration will remain valid and will also be extended to every CU library. We believe that this arrangement will facilitate access to literature and special collections of CU libraries.

Because of a reconstruction of our Loan desk room between 3rd and 6th September 2019, we are ready to lend you books in the Study room during this time. It´s a little bit challenge for us, but we look forward to seeing you, and to newcomers in particular! We acquired a temporary access to Oxford English Dictionary. It is accessible only from computers located in the faculty.
